In this post, we’re going to review new Fiat 500e, Priced at $52,500 before on-road costs, it’s an attractive option for those seeking a premium electric vehicle. However, there are some aspects of this EV that leave room for improvement, and that’s what we’ll explore in this review.

Exterior Design

The Fiat 500e has undergone significant changes in its exterior design, making it larger in almost every dimension compared to its 2007 predecessor, which continues to be in production alongside the new model. The modernization is evident in the circular headlights and integrated daytime running lights, and it features Level 2 autonomous driving technology. The car has a classic Fiat 500 look, with an open front grille for efficient cooling. One noteworthy detail is the gas struts, which indicate the manufacturer’s attention to detail. However, the lack of under-seat storage is a drawback.

The Fiat 500e is available in vibrant colors, with gray options discontinued. The overall design captures the essence of the original Fiat 500.

Side Profile and Interior

The side profile retains the unmistakable Fiat 500 identity, with stylish 17-inch wheels and thoughtful design elements. The door handles are fixed and offer keyless entry, adding to the modern feel of the car. The car’s design ensures a balance between aesthetics and aerodynamics.

At the rear, the Fiat 500e maintains its Fiat 500 heritage while incorporating modern elements, such as LED taillights. The absence of fake exhausts is a refreshing change. The boot space, though not extensive, is practical for a small EV, and the rear seats can be folded to maximize cargo capacity. Additionally, the presence of charging cables under the floor adds to the car’s convenience.

Interior Comfort and Quality

The interior of the Fiat 500e represents a significant departure from its predecessor. It offers comfortable seating, including telescoping adjustments for better ergonomics. The use of man-made, eco-friendly leather and a two-spoke steering wheel give the interior a modern and airy feel. The infotainment system is impressive, with a large 10.25-inch display running Android Automotive, offering wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The digital instrument cluster provides essential information and is responsive.

Storage options in the car are quite practical, with a spacious glove box, cup holders, and door bins. The center armrest conceals additional storage space. The absence of a transmission tunnel creates more interior room, a marked improvement over previous Fiat 500 models.

Driving Experience

Driving the Fiat 500e is described as a pleasant experience, with good primary ride comfort and nimble handling. The compact size makes it a perfect city car. The car is equipped with an 87 kW electric motor and 220 Nm of torque, providing adequate power and acceleration, especially for urban driving. The regenerative braking system helps to improve efficiency.

The driving modes include normal, range, and Sherpa. The car offers excellent traction, although the handling dynamics could be improved. However, the vehicle’s small 42 kWh battery results in a lower-than-expected range, closer to 250 kilometers rather than the claimed 300 kilometers.

Final Thoughts

The Fiat 500e represents a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, offering a fresh design and improved ergonomics. Priced competitively for an EV, it’s an attractive option for those looking for a city-friendly electric vehicle. However, it falls short in terms of warranty, offering only three years or 150,000 kilometers, a factor that might make potential buyers reconsider their options. Despite this, the Fiat 500e is a fun and practical choice for city driving, offering a modern take on a classic design.
